From September 2020, it became a statutory requirement that all schools in England teach Relationship and Health Education as a fundamental part of the curriculum.
This September (2025), we have adopted a new award winning scheme of learning called '1decision' to enhance our Personal Social and Health Education offer; this scheme also covers Relationships too. We are really excited to deliver what this scheme brings with its interactive videos and teaching materials to aid and further support discussions in the classroom.
We believe that our personal potential offer at Greenways is really strong and this additional resource will ensure all pupils' continue to receive a broad and ambitious curriculum offer.
This comprehensive schemes resources are mapped to the PSHE Association’s Programme of Study and has held the PSHE Association kitemark for over a decade. The PSHE Association no longer kite marks whole school programmes, but when they did, this scheme was recognised.
Having reviewed the content of this scheme, we have decided not to teach sex education and there will therefore be one less unit taught in Year 6. On the Y4-6 Curriculum Coverage document below, this is the Y6 Conception unit (page 10). All other year groups do not branch into sex education and therefore, parents do not have the right to withdraw pupils from other lessons.
On the downloads below, you can find all of the relevant documentation to further support your understanding of how this subject will be taught in schools and you can also visit the 1decision website https://www.1decision.co.uk/ if you wish.
If you have any questions about what your child will be learning, please do not hesitate to contact the school office and your child's teacher will be in touch.
At Greenways we have been very lucky to have the opportunity to work alongside the NHS in their careers programme for children.
To begin with, we had a small group of our Student Senate meet with NHS staff to talk about careers in the NHS and what they know already. The children then shared their ideas on how learning about careers could be fun in the classroom and online.
The NHS staff then took the children's feedback and have created a bespoke primary careers programme for the NHS called 'Careville'.
Following a launch assembly with all pupils, our KS1 and 2 children then piloted some of the fun activities planned by the Head of Curriculum at The Inspirational Learning Group and fed back their thoughts to the team.
Teaching about future careers is part of our PSHE curriculum at Greenways and to be part of this programmes development has been a wonderful opportunity for all. We can't wait to see what comes next.
