At Greenways, we highly value the performing arts, with music playing a key role in developing pupils’ creativity, self-expression, and confidence. We believe that all children can express themselves through music, and that a high-quality music curriculum—delivered by specialists—can unlock both academic and personal potential.
Music is taught by specialist music teachers from Nursery to Year 6, ensuring consistency, progression, and subject expertise across all key stages.
We follow both the EYFS Framework and the National Curriculum for Music, building pupils' skills in:
Listening and appraising
Singing and performance
Composition and improvisation
Understanding musical notation and structure
Wherever possible, we go beyond National Curriculum expectations, providing enhanced opportunities for pupils with a particular interest or talent in music.
We are proud to offer a wide range of musical experiences that allow pupils to shine, including:
Two school choirs (KS1 and KS2)
A Rock Band
Private guitar tuition
Whole-class instrument teaching
Performance opportunities throughout the school year
Every child will learn to play musical instruments and perform in front of an audience before they leave primary school.
Throughout their journey at Greenways, pupils take part in a variety of musical performances and celebrations, including:
EYFS and KS1 Nativities
KS2 Carol Concert
Year 4 Harvest Assembly
Year 3 Easter Assembly
KS2 End-of-Year Production
Singing Stars Concerts
Sound Foundations Music Concerts
‘Rock Off’ events celebrating band and ensemble performance
As part of our WAT Pledge, children will also get to see a live performance including music.
