French

At Greenways, we believe that learning a modern foreign language—such as French—broadens horizons and opens up a world of opportunity. It helps our pupils explore and appreciate different cultures, promotes global communication, and enhances cognitive and memory skills.

Learning another language also builds confidence, encourages curiosity, and prepares children for the increasingly interconnected world they are growing up in.

Our Approach to Teaching French

We teach French to all children in Key Stage 2 using the high-quality scheme Language Angels. This resource supports our teachers—especially those who are non-specialists—in delivering engaging, interactive, and progressive French lessons.

The Language Angels programme:

• Covers all National Curriculum requirements for Modern Foreign Languages at KS2

• Develops skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing

• Includes a strong focus on phonics, grammar, and cultural understanding

• Provides interactive resources to support enjoyment and participation

We aim to make language learning enjoyable and meaningful, helping pupils build vocabulary, develop accurate pronunciation, and understand how language works.
