Design and Technology (D&T) plays a vital role in helping pupils develop creativity, critical thinking, and practical skills. It combines both theoretical understanding and hands-on learning to support pupils in understanding how things work, how they are made, and the design decisions behind everyday products.
At Greenways, we have developed our own D&T curriculum, built around Core Knowledge Organisers that identify the key knowledge, skills, and vocabulary pupils need to master across Key Stages 1 and 2. Our curriculum is closely aligned with the National Curriculum, while also tailored to meet the needs and interests of our learners.
Each unit is designed with a real-life, purposeful outcome, ensuring pupils understand the relevance of their learning. Throughout the process, children are supported to:
Investigate and research existing products (technical knowledge)
Design their own purposeful and functional products
Make using a range of materials, tools, and techniques
Evaluate and improve their products through testing and feedback
Our D&T curriculum encourages innovation, independence, and resilience. Pupils gain a strong understanding of materials, mechanics, structures, and food technology, helping them to become confident problem-solvers with a practical mindset.
