SEND and Inclusion

SENDCo & Inclusion Lead - Miss Chelsea Stone

At Greenways Primary, inclusion is a top priority. We take great pride in our strong commitment to being an inclusive school where every child is supported, valued and empowered to succeed. Our aim is not only to meet each child’s needs now but also to help prepare them for a happy, independent and successful future. Here’s how we make sure all our pupils feel safe, included and able to thrive:

  • Every child matters – We believe all children, regardless of their needs, deserve a nurturing and supportive learning environment where they can reach their full potential.
  •  Every teacher is a teacher of SEND – Inclusion is everyone’s responsibility. All our teachers are trained to support children with special educational needs and adapt their teaching to meet a wide range of needs in the classroom.
  • Working together – We collaborate with the local authority and external professionals like educational psychologists, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists to provide tailored support for each child.

  • Supporting all needs – We provide support across the four key areas defined in the SEND Code of Practice:

  • Communication and interaction – Helping children with speech, language, and communication difficulties.
  •  Cognition and learning – Offering specific interventions for children with learning difficulties.
  •  Social, emotional and mental health – Providing strategies and support for emotional wellbeing and behaviour.
  •  Sensory and physical needs – Ensuring children with physical disabilities or sensory impairments have access to the support they need.
  • Strong parent partnerships – We value your insight and aim to keep you informed and involved. Our SENDCo is always available to talk through any concerns or questions you may have about your child’s needs.
  • Parent coffee mornings – We host regular informal sessions where you can:

-Learn more about your child’s specific needs and how we support them.

-Meet with our SENDCo.

-Connect with other parents and ask questions in a relaxed setting.

  • Listening to our pupils – We involve children in decisions about their learning, so they feel heard and supported throughout their school journey.

  • Ongoing staff training – Our team receives regular training to stay up to date with the best ways to support all learners in an inclusive classroom.
